Beautiful unicorn

Now I try to wright the pattern for my unicorn in english. Some of you may know the german pattern. You can also read the pattern in dutch or in spanish.

I use yarn from Schachenmayr called Catania and a hook size of 2,5 mm (US: B or C, UK:12). The unicorn is about 11,5 cm (4,5 inch) tall. I used the following colours: white (106), sand (404), light blue (173), fresia (251), sun (208), himbeer (256), dahlie (409).

For the pattern I use the US terms.

ch -chain (stitch)
sc -single crochet
slst -slip stitch
st -stitch(es)
dec - decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)
inc - increase (crochet 2 stitches in the same stitch )
hdc - half double crochet
 dc -double crochet
°...° - crochet in the same stitch

You crochet in spirals. Lay out a few inches of yarn in colour of your unicorn to be able to sew its back together later.

LEGS (2x): choose your yarn. chain 5 and start in the second ch from the hook:
01. 8 sc -> the first 4 sc in the front loop only, turn and do the other 4 sc on the other side.
02.-03. 8 sc.
04. [inc, 3 sc] x2 (10)
05.-06. 10 sc.
07. [inc, 4 sc] x2 (12)
At the end of the 7th round skip stitch and slst (I call it the end loop). Your leg is finished. Cut the yarn. Do the same with the second leg, but without the slst at the end of round 7 and do not cut the yarn. Do as follow:
08. 5 sc, 2 ch, slst (to the second leg*), 11 sc, 2 sc (you are now on the other side of the 2 ch [between the legs]), slst (you are at the first leg again), 6 sc. (28)
note: Before you join the legs please flat them together, so you can see where they have to join on the top.
*I use the 4th stitch to the left of the end loop.
09.-15. 28 sc.
16. 12 sc, dec x4, 8 sc (24)
17. 12 sc, dec x2, 8 sc (22)
18. Now you make the neck: place marker, 8 sc, flat the body together and continue at the opposite side with 3 sc. Now you have to be at the marker again. (11sc)
Sew the remaining stitches of the back together. Don't forget to fill in some stuffing material, especially the back and the rear leg.
19. 10 sc, inc (12)
20. [sc, inc] x6 (18)
21. [2 sc, inc] x6 (24)
22. [3 sc, inc] x6 (30)
23. [4 sc, inc] x6 (36)
24.-28. 36 sc.
29. [4 sc, dec] x6 (30)
30. [3 sc, dec] x6 (24)
31. [2 sc, dec] x6 (18)
32. [sc, dec] x6 (12)
33. dec x6 (6)
Close the round.

EARS (2x):
ch 5. Start in the second chain from the hook and do as follow:
sc, sc, hdc, °5 hdc°, hdc, sc, sc, ch
fasten off with a slst -> Your ear is finished, leave a long tail for sewing the ear to the head later.

HORN: colour (sun)
01. 3 sc in magic loop
02. inc, 2 sc (4)
03. sc, inc, 2 sc (5)
04. 4 sc, inc (6)
05. 6 sc, skip stitch and fasten off with a slst. Leave a long tail for sewing the horn to the head later.

MUZZLE: colour (sand)
01. 6 sc in magic loop
02. inc x6 (12)
03. [sc, inc] x6 (18)
04. 18 sc, slst after next stitch (= end loop). Leave a long tail to sew the muzzle to the head. The boarder should fit tightly at transition between neck and head. Don't forget to fill in some stuffing material.

MANE: You have to crochet a chain and arches in different colours.
ch 20 in the main colour of the mane (e. g. dahlie). Start in the 3rd stitch from the hook and do as follow:
(dc, 2 dc, 2 ch, slst) = 1st "arch", *slst, (2 ch, 3 dc, 2 ch, slst)* = arch. *...* repeat this instruction until the end. Now you can crochet the arches in different colours, if you want. It is possible to make the arches longer (= make more dc's) or shorter.
At the end you sew the mane upright to the head.

TAIL: You have to crochet 3 single tails and sew them together. The middle one is the big one. For this you do as follow -> ch 9 and start in the 2nd ch from hook:
2 slst, 2 sc, 2 hdc, dc, °3 dc, 2 ch, slst°, slst, °2 sc°, °2 hdc°, °2 dc°, hdc, sc, slst, fasten off with slst.

For the other 2 parts of the tail do as follow -> ch 9 and start in the 2nd chain from hook:
2 slst, 2 sc, 2 hdc, dc, °3 dc, 2 ch, slst° , pull through and leave a long tail to sew the 3 parts together. Sew the tail to the body of the unicorn.

Now you have to embroider the eyes to the head and nostrils to the muzzle with black yarn. FINISHED!

I hope you like the unicorn as much as I do. Feel free to comment or to contact me, if there are any questions or improvements for the pattern. Once your unicorn is ready, you can show it on instagram or on facebook (you can find me there @ms.eni.handmade ;-) ). I'm looking forward your unicorns.
